Piezo2

interactive sound installation

Piezo2 (2006) is an interactive sound installation consisting of 16 wooden panels on which participants are encouraged to walk, dance, stomp, scrape, etc. All 16 panels contain piezo contact microphones. Half of the panels are setup to  trigger prerecorded sounds, the volume of which are determined by the level of force implied on the panel by the participant. The feeds from the piezo microphones attached to the other half of the panels are run through computer audio effect units  in real-time to create a variety of sounds. Piezo2 produces an infinite variety of sounds creating an ever changing sonic environment based on user interaction.
